Ludwig Type I

My linear Scar

Picture shows thinning on top of my head

Hi Doctor:

Sorry the pictures are of very poor quality.

My endocrinologist said I am Type I on the Ludwig scale.

I am 34 years old. Female. South Asian descent, dark hair. I have been losing hair for over 15 years.

I had one transplant procedure 3 years ago. It was with Dr. Ross. It was a strip, about 700-750 grafts.

There are no pitting, scarring, etc. What I am unhappy about is that I have less hair now than before the procedure. I DO NOT see the grafts growing at all (it has been three years since the surgery). But I cannot confirm this, because I cannot tell. But I am thinner up top and front. I DO NOT believe the grafts worked. As a matter of fact, Dr. Ross put me on Propecia (I am a woman) and kept me on Rogaine for a year, hoping my hair will return. It never did.

The grafts were placed in the first half of my head--from the front of my head to middle of my head. Nothing was put in the back.

I have diffuse loss throughout, with severe loss up top - see pictures. The front is thin, and the back is almost bald. The top sides are very very very thin. I can barely cover my scalp when I pull my hair back. Most of the loss is on the top of my head. Please note, I have hair there up top, but it is very thin. Dr. Ross put grafts IN BETWEEN the existing hair.

My donor site healed very well. I have a thin scar, but no complications. The top of my head still feels numbish (after three years). I don't know if this is psychosomatic--but the scalp still feels like it is mildy anesthesized. I don't know how else to explain it. I have sensation and feeling--but it feels out of it.

Presently, I am also on spironolactone for testosterone reduction, Actos for insulin resistance and Synthroid for thyroid replacement. I had a tumor removed from my thyroid about 6 months ago.

GOALS
I don't expect a miracle. I just want enough hair that my scalp won't show under diffuse light. Right now, under sunlight, the scalp shows through shiny. Also, to fill in the almost bald patch in toward the back of the head. I don't expect a miracle--I just want enough hair so that I can style it in a way that will hide the loss. Now, I can't  do that very well.

QUESTIONS
1) Will a FUE procedure help ?

2) Do you think if I will lose even more of my hair getting a FUE?

3) Do you have female patients similar to my situation and any success with these patients?

4) Any advice for me regarding getting a second hair transplant?

Thank you
D (female patient)

Dr. Robert Jones' Comments

D,
The FUE procedure will help as same as the strip, the recipient site is identical. Hair loss is a continuous process. It doesn't stop with a procedure. I have females that have been happy with their results.

Please send me your telephone number through my site and I'll call you,
