Doctor:

I am 31 years of age. I'd like to have a full head of hair again, with a normal forehead and thicker hair on top. Based on the pictures provided, can you tell me if this is possible?

What is the most realistic scenario for my case? Can you turn me back into a Norwood 1, 2 or 3 ? If so, approximately how many grafts will I need and much would that cost me?

I would also like to know how long it will take from start to finish. I mean from the time I start the surgery to the time when I can actually have all or the majority my hair back ? Will it take as long as 1 year for all the grafts to grow out?

Thanks.

Dr. Cole's Comments

You are 31 now. Some day you will be over 60, we all hope. During that time you will continue to loose hair every day. You are a class 5 to 6 now. You will probably be a 7 some day. In order to get a full head of hair, you need enough hair in the donor region to relocate to the bare areas. There simply is not enough of that for you at this time.

On top of that you have a larger hair. This means you have more surface area to cover. This will require even more hair. You have Asian roots and this often means you have coarser hair. You also have a lower density often (this is not positive). The crown or vertex always takes more work than the other areas. Therefore, it is not likely that you can become a class 3 or better. Most likely you will need to limit your restoration to a class 3v, 2v, or a very bald spot in the back. You cannot get back to a class 1.

Of course some things may change over time such as hair clonning, advances in body hair transplants, etc. For now you need as many grafts as can be removed from you normal donor area. This is probably 5000 to 10,000 total grafts. most likely it will be closer to 7000 follicular units.
