Hi Doctor:

I post as AdonisNYC in HairSite. I am 29 years old. My hair is WET in the pictures posted here.

My Goals

Hairline - I am to consider getting a hair transplant, the frontal hairline has to be thick and it definitely can't be V-shaped (as that wasn't my natural hairline to begin with).
My original hairline (prior to hairloss) was rather oval shaped- almost like a straight line in the front. Can this be done ?

Crown - Do hair transplant replace hair in the crown (like the area Rogaine is supposed to regrow)? I really want that area to be thick again and I have plenty of donor hair to work with. My general goal is to get the crown area thick again (growing naturally out of my head) and to also work on the front over time. Specifically I would like the crown to get a lot thicker with the hair coming out toward the sky (if that makes sense) as opposed to it flapping down due to lack of density. Right now, there's plenty of hair there but it's sparsely filled and the hair falls down (whereas when there was a lot of hair it would grow out naturally and look nice and thick in that area- almost like Ross' hairdo on the sitcom "Friends").

Questions:
1) Are my goals realistic ? If not, can you tell me a more realistic plan for my case?

2) How many grafts will I need to restore the frontal + hairline ?

3) How many grafts will I need to make the crown thick again?

4) Do I need to schedule different trips ? One trip to do work on the crown and another trip to do work on the front ?

5) Do you think I would experience permanent shock loss as a result of the hair transplant? I am most concerned about this.

6) I am 29 years old. Some of Hairsite visitors said I am too young and doctors will be reluctant to work on me. Your thoughts ?

Thank you in advance for any comments or advice you can give me.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards
AdonisNYC

Dr. Robert Jones' Comments

Adonis,

It is reasonable to increase density on the crown with hair transplant but the danger is further hair loss, especially in a young man your age. I would strongly suggest trying rogaine and propecia for at least a year prior to surgical intervention.

To restore the front and crown you need 2500 grafts.

Permanent shockloss is not a concern.

Please send me your telephone number and I can call you to further discuss your hair loss concerns,
