Doctor:

I'm 31 y/o and would like to fill in the sides of the front to make more of
a natural hairline. I would greatly appreciate it if you could answer the following questions:

1) Based on the photos, approximately how many FUE grafts will I need to restore my hairline?

2) Can everything be done in one session or do I need to schedule multiple visits ?

3) Do you think if I need to worry about permanent shock fallout as a result of the procedure?

4) Approximately how much would this cost me ?

5) Do you need to shave both my donor site and the recipient site for the procedure?

Thank you for your time.

Dr. Cole's comments

You have minimal hair loss at age 31. this is often a very good sign and conducive to hair restoration surgery.

Your loss affects the peak areas primarily based on these photos. This is consistent with a class 2 for hair loss. It is my understanding that you desire work in the peaks or side only. You do not wish to lower the hair line. If this is the case, you need about 300 grafts in each peak. This will consist of about 100 to 200 single hair grafts in each peak. This will produce a better hair line.

I then recommend the majority of your grafts be two hair grafts that are properly angled. If you hair is very coarse and dark in color, you may require additional single hair grafts. Worst case scenario is about 400 grafts in each peak. If you wish to lower the hair line in the middle, you may require additional work.

Based on your current short hair style, we do not feel that strip surgery is a good option for you. frankly, I do not like to do strip surgery on virgin scalps if the patient is under 35 years of age. We charge 8.00 per graft in the usa for our version of fue, called FIT. all these grafts can be placed in a single session. this will produce an average density of 45 grafts per sq. cm. about 40% of the patients will be satisfied with a single procedure. This means you may desire another smaller pass to increase density 8 to 12 months after the first procedure. A much smaller percentage will desire a third or fourth procedure.

If we do not work into another hair bearing area, you will not have shock loss. Shock loss affects only areas that are grafted. The bald areas have no hair so don't worry about shock loss in these areas.

Best of luck. There are many who now offer fue.
