I am 39 years old. Never had surgeries before. This will
be my first time.
Hopefully these pics are good enough. My hair is dark
brown, though it appears black in most of the pics, and
that might give the illusion that my hair is thicker
than in reality.
I have always had a relatively high hairline, even as a
youth. I tried to note in one pic approximately how my
hairline has moved over time. I think I am a good
candidate, as it has taken about 20 years to get where
it is now, so I would consider my loss a slow
progression, EXCEPT for my four months on Avodart. I
believe I lost at least five years of battling hairloss
in the 3rd and 4th month of being on avodart. What a
horrible mistake!!!
I went from a soft tapered v pattern to a horseshoe
pattern in a matter of a couple months. As far as things
being since, I seem to have stabilized over the last 15
months or so. Also, I have 2 birthmarks/moles (one at
hairline and one at right temple) that pretty much mark
where my teen hairline used to be, so I can assess my
loss pretty accurately.
My Goals:
1. My temples, particularly the right one, angle back
pretty harshly. If there was any way to fill that out,
to give some dimension more towards the front of the
face I think would really be aesthetically beneficial. I
have an angular "romanesque" nose that is angled in
contradiction to that recessed temple line. That really
bothers me.
2. The front hairline horseshoe pattern. If I could get
back to a tapered v or better that would be great.
3. A realistic lowering of the frontal line all in all.
It was as recent as 5 years ago that I was relatively
happy with my hair. I usually wore it short, spiky and
messy. If I could get back to that style, I would be
ecstatic. As it is now, I kind of let it get overly long
hoping it would conceal the loss, but it is just
starting to look bad. Also, these pics were taken at the
end of a long day, so its just plain messy.
I am not overly concerned with my crown right now. When
I hit it aggressively with minox I can get a bit of
filling in. I am more focused on the hairline this go
around.
Questions
1.What approach would best fit my needs? FUE
or Traditional?
2. If traditional strip procedure, what size of scar
would be left at donor?
3. How many grafts would be needed? Please give a few
options. (For example, "With 500 grafts we could
accomplish ...., or with 1000 grafts we could
accomplish....)
4. How many sessions?
5. What percentage of grafts usually successfully
survive?
6. What is a realistic time frame to be off work?
7. What is a realistic time frame for no signs of
redness, swelling or scabbing?
8. When would grafts start to yield terminal hairs?
9. What is cost estimation?
10. Do I
need to worry about permanent shock loss?
Please add any other notes you might think would be
helpful.
Thank you!

Case 164
You could have either fue or strip, depending on your
budget.
The scar from a strip would be about 15 to 20 cm long.
You would need 2500+ grafts to accomplish all your
needs, ie restoring the crown and hairline. 95%+ will
grow. I can do this in one session with strip, 2 with
fue.
You would need to be off work for 10 days. All swelling,
scabs and redness would be gone by this time. Growth
would start at 3 months.
By fue the cost is $16,000, strip is $8,000 I've never
seen permanent shock,
